Our Mission

From Harvard Yard’s iconic landscapes to globally renowned research laboratories, we are stewards of the physical spaces where Harvard’s world‑changing teaching and research take place. While maintaining the University’s historic buildings and grounds, we advance a resilient, sustainable campus for the future.

Excellence in Stewardship

Facilities Maintenance Operations (FMO) is committed to maintaining a world‑class operation every bit as excellent as the institution we serve. As an in‑house service provider, we combine industry-leading expertise with deep knowledge of Harvard's campus—not only its buildings and landscapes, but each School’s unique history, vision, and values.

Campus Stewardship

FMO’s team of more than 900 employees provides comprehensive building and landscape maintenance throughout Cambridge, Allston, and Longwood.

In partnership with Schools and departments, we customize services to meet the dynamic needs of the Harvard community and support the University’s teaching and research mission. We maintain a wide range of facilities including laboratories, classrooms, libraries, museums, residential buildings, athletic facilities, and performance spaces.

Environmental Stewardship

Our Custodial, Landscape, Maintenance, and Recycling teams support the University’s environmental and climate goals through green cleaning, organic landscaping, energy-efficient building systems, and robust recycling and waste reduction programs.

Together, these efforts advance Harvard’s vision for a sustainable, zero waste future and promote the well-being of people and planet.

Community Stewardship

Above all, we take pride in creating a first and lasting impression for the many thousands who visit Harvard every day—from tourists to global leaders—and for the students and scholars who call it home.

Customer Focused. Data Driven.
